As the regular season comes to an end, we are sad to see our seniors leave, many of whom this will be their last season ever playing. The seniors on the team this year are Nick Albert, Jacob Elson, Taevon Greene, Ryan Lowe, Kyle Maercklein, and Hayden Nightengale. Senior night will be a home game on January 31 against our prominent opponent Centreville High School.

Senior night will be an emotional time for numerous. “I’ve had such a great time playing Westfield basketball the last four years. It’s sad to think that it’s all going to be over soon, but the friends I’ve made and lessons I’ve learned throughout these last few years have made a huge impact on my life. I can’t wait to walk out on senior night and play one final game at home in front of the dog pound,” Jacob Elson, 12, said.

Albert has been apart of the Bulldogs all four years: “Senior night for me will be a moment I’ll never forget and always cherish. I love my team to death and it’s going to be very sad playing my last home game with them, but life goes on and everyone will be moving onto a new chapter in their lives. My past 4 seasons have been great and will truly be missed. It sucks that we won’t be able to play together anymore, but we’ll all talk about the good times we had together years later,” Nick Albert, 12, said.

Nightengale played his sophomore year for junior varsity and came back to the Bulldogs his senior year to play for the varsity team: “I’m excited for senior night because we get to defend our home court against Centreville. It’s more intense when you get to play a rival on senior night, especially when the game was so close between our two teams a few weeks ago. Other than it being senior night, it just feels like a regular game, we just have to go out and get the job done,” Hayden Nightengale, 12, said.

However, even though it’s senior night, underclassman are too affected. “This will be the first senior night that I’ll be apart of and I’m excited it’s for the seniors that I’ve grown close to over the season. It’ll be sad to realize they’ll leave me soon but I’m happy to see them get the recognition they deserve. I’ll miss all the seniors a lot. I have three younger sisters, so I never had brothers, but these seniors acted as older brothers that I could look up to. They have been the best teammates anyone could have,” Aaron Opoku, 11, said.

Even though the season did not turn out as expected for many, the Bulldogs have created lasting friendships with each other and senior night will be bittersweet for all.
