On May 16th, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recognized Golfer Danielle Suh and the Westfield Football Team for winning Virginia State Titles in the fall.  The recognition took place at the Board of Supervisors meeting, led by Sully district supervisor Kathy Smith.

Danielle Suh won the Virginia State title in golf despite only being in her freshman year.  She overcame cold and windy conditions to win by one stroke at International Country Club in Fairfax on October 25th.  Due to the difficult conditions, Danielle was the only golfer to shoot below 80 on both days of the tournament.  Danielle was joined by her coach, Chuck Welch, to accept the certificate.  She thanked the Board of Supervisors, her parents, and her coaches.

Many members of the Westfield Football team were also in attendance to be recognized for their second consecutive (and fourth overall) Virginia State championship.  Westfield posted a 13-2 record ending in a dramatic 34-28 double overtime victory over Oscar Smith.  Coach Kyle Simmons said a few words while accepting the certificate.  After thanking the Board of Supervisors, he added, "We aren't just trying to win football games.  These are future husbands, fathers, and citizens.  We are trying to help them become young men through the game of football."

Congratulations to our athletes for receiving this honor.
