Maddie Scheetz Portfolio

Normally I keep to my fortay of throwing on the pottery wheel and mixing glazes on my pieces, but I am deeply fascinated with the effects of combining glazes. I wanted to capture the small details that many eyes pass over when observing my work. In these shots you can see my favorite parts of glazing, such as where one glaze meets another, where the glazes creep from the raised areas, and where many glazes have mixed in one area. I find these overlooked details the most breathtaking and intricate areas on my artwork.

Through my three dimensional work I wanted to represent how every person we come into contact with in our lives are connected. Each of the eight pieces has one glaze in common, Potter’s Choice Blue Midnight.  Even though they all have Blue Midnight, the outcomes of the glaze combinations vary drastically. This is due to the other glazes and how they mixed with Blue Midnight. My goal was to relate Blue Midnight to myself and the other glazes to the people that I interact with everyday. With each person I am slightly different, much like how Blue Midnight evolves based on which glaze it is interacting with.
