August Huynh Portfolio

I view my art as a direct reflection of who I am and what my interests are. It’s a refuge I retreat into when the stresses of school and life become too overwhelming, and I use it to express my thoughts and tell my stories when words aren’t enough.

Growing up as a young transgender person, I wasn’t exposed to many other people like myself in my personal life or in any media I consumed. Had I been exposed to more LGBT representation during my formative years, I probably would have learned to love and accept myself for who I am at a much younger age. As such, it’s no surprise that the vast majority of my creative work centers LGBT people and their stories, and my body of work exhibited is no exception.

In my portfolio, my primary focus was visual development and concept creation for the webcomic I want to write and illustrate, Past Mortem. The story follows Clove, a reanimated corpse with no recollection of who they are or why they were reanimated. They set off into an unknown and rapidly changing world after the tragic death of their adoptive mother, Yves.
